There was a time in my life, in my early twenties, when I had a lot of fat to lose. And over time, I did. That was then, now it’s my mid-fifties. And I found myself with a small amount of fat to lose. It’s a more subtle process, though the work is still hard. I eat reasonably healthy, and have since I found my balance around eating back in those earlier days. Without working at it, I eat lots of vegetables and fruits, low-fat dairy, high quality proteins, and whole grains and beans. I’m just not interested in fast food, and my biggest downfalls are excellent chocolates and excellent cheeses, which I reserve for treats.

But the change of metabolism at this stage of my life created enough calorie surplus from my normal eating patterns that I added some extra pounds. I had to look at subtleties in my food intake, creating new patterns that fit the new  information about what my body needs. Part of me resents this – I had worked so hard to develop a healthy relationship with my appetite and my body’s needs! I so appreciated how automatically my choices continued to lead to stability and health for all those years. Determined to find that again, I went searching for answers in the latest developments concerning fat loss and exercise and found my way to the Fit Yummy Mummy program, created by Holly Rigsby for women who wanted to lose weight post-pregnancy. Her system works beautifully for anyone interested in increasing fitness without devoting hours and hours to working out, and I have been extremely pleased with both the program itself and the wonderfully supportive online community that Holly has created.  Through this program and community, I am finding my way back to the grace in eating patterns I had before, but with the addition of muscular strength and stability that I never had, even when I was dancing professionally.

I highly recommend this program and online community to women looking to embark on a fitness journey or enhance the ways they support themselves nutritionally, through exercise, and in many other ways.
